I realize many people would prefer toemail me and I do respond to emails within 24-hours; however, before I can make an appointment, I will need some information from you to ensure that I can address your concerns appropriately. For this reason, you will get an appointment set-up faster if you call my office at 801-734-4945 or me directly at 801-472-8442.
What is your schedule?
I see clients Monday through Thursday 9am - 5pm. Friday 9am - 3pm.
Where are you located?
My office is located in Orem, close to Provo Canyon. The address is 831 N. 1420 E. My office is upstairs.
How often would we be meeting?
Initially, I recommend we meet weekly to address the concerns that bring you to counseling, so you can feel some relief more quickly. Once we feel you have a good footing, we can explore a schedule that best meets your needs. If you are dealing with a severe crisis, additional sessions might be necessary to provide you support and guidance until you can better cope with the crisis.
How many sessions will I need?
I generally observe that most progress occurs in a moderate amount of sessions, meaning between 4 and 20 sessions. I even see progress in clients after just three sessions. That is my goal to make some improvement as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee how long your counseling will go. It will really depend on your presenting concerns, and how willing you are to do the work.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, however please know that working a fee-for-service is much simpler and keeps your confidentiality protected. I am currently provided services on the following panels: United Behavioral Health Wise Provider Network - State employees and unionized employees Blue Cross/Blue Shield EMI
As always, if you insist on using insurance check with your network to see if I am a provider on your specific plan. If your Insurance does not reimburse, counseling will be disrupted until payments are received. I love what I do, but I can't work for free.
What are your fees?
Generally, my fees are as follows:
• Individual therapy Sessions are $120 per each 45- to 50-minute session billed to insurance. I give a $20 dollar discount for cash paying clients. -Marital Therapy will cost $180 per 90 minute session -Pre-marital therapy - four 50-minute sessions with a $500 four-session cost and then pay $180 for 90-minute additional sessions if needed/desired. I will not tell you if your marriage will work or if you shouldn't get married. I will help you develop confidence in your decision to marry or if needed help you identify areas of concern and how to approach them.
How much do you think you are worth? Counseling isn't a task you take lightly. I wish I could guarantee your success, I am confident in our ability to work together and make significant changes last when we are really clear about your problem and what much better looks like for you. I have noticed that being clear about these things really helps with the progress.
What are your payment options?
Payment is due at the time of session. I accept card, cash or checks. I also work with LDS Bishops or other ecclesiastical leaders.
What is your cancellation policy? Please be courteous to me and other clients and give me 24 hours notice. In case of incelment weather illness or other acts of God please just let me know as soon as you can. Otherwise I will bill you $50 per hour. How do you handle my confidentiality? Generally speaking, anything that occurs in session, stays in session. However, I am a mandated reporter & required by State law to breach confidentiality if you tell me you're a danger to yourself, a danger to others, or if I hear about abuse or neglect of minors, the elderly, or dependent adults.
What age ranges do you work with? With some exceptions, I typically work with 11 years old and up.
What should I expect/How is therapy structured? At the First Appointment:
Some people feel a little nervous about starting therapy, especially couples therapy and have questions about the counseling process. The first session for individuals is focused on getting to know you and the reason you are with me. We work together on establishing goals. Therapy should not last forever. For couples I will meet with both of you for the initial session and then separately for your own individual session and then together from then on.
What is your professional training and experience? After completing my Master Degree at the University of San Diego, I worked an acute crisis facility. Some clients were diagnosed with Schizophrenia, Borderline Personality DIsorder Depression OCD and just about everything else. I've worked at University counseling centers, counseling for students for school districts in North Hollywood and San Diego. I Recently worked with young men in a treatment facility focusing on sexual perpetrators, many of which also had drug abuse histories.
I have received training from Sue Johnson for Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples; Hypnosis training from Michael Yapko, Marissa Peer and Karl Smith. I strongly encourage you to take advantage of my training and experience in hypnotherapy.
Will you try to convert me or reconvert me? No way. I've worked very hard to develop my appreciation for all sorts of people; the work I do is not about me, I know where your true value comes from and your faith has nothing to do with it.
What is your favorite food? I really like tostadas.
What is your favorite movie? Chariots of fire number one, but The Three Amigos is pretty classic.
Is it true that your belly button once caught on fire? Yes. I was quite young.
Is your hair naturally curly? Yes, but it appears to be running away from me.
What is your least favorite food? Onions. They smell like armpit B.O. why anyone would want that taste in their mouth is beyond me. The texture is disturbing too, combine them together and you have Satan's flower. I mean really, if there is a fat onion in my burger I taste nothing but armpits for two days.
